Week 5 Update

Hi everyone!

We’re thrilled to bring you a blog post this week from the business team! Our names are Geo Tucker and Delia Jarvis, and we are the Business President and Media Director respectively.

It has been a huge last two weeks for business, so we’re going to break it down by subteam.

Awards:
While not a subteam, our awards groups have been hard at work. Woodie Flowers, the award given to a mentor who exemplifies the FIRST values were submitted by team members. The essay dives into how our lead mentor, Dr. Wendell inspires us all and has made a lasting impact on the team. Dr. Wendell was also nominated for the AZ FIRST Teacher of the Year Award. We also submitted the Dean’s List Award honoring our two Semi-Finalist nominees Aiden Valentino and Landon Nguyen for their hard work and dedication to the team and FIRST. The final award we submitted is the Impact Award, the most prestigious award given in the FIRST robotics competition. It goes towards the team who works past their robot to support their community on a FIRST, local, and global scale.

Outreach:

We have hosted and participated in 5 outreach events in the last two weeks! We hosted Rainbow Robotics events at one n ten’s Litchfield Satellite and the Tempe Public Library. We also hosted a booth at the ACP STEAM Knight Fair and at the TUHSD District Enrollment Fair. Finally, we hosted a parent meet and greet, our Parent Pit Stop, at Barro’s pizza. These events help us spread FIRST and STEM to all people regardless of backgrounds. They are part of our over 50 events in the local community this season!

Spirit:

Spirit has been hard at work making the bumpers for our robot this season. The fabric piece you see at the bottom of our robot which are made to protect the robot and field from damage. They go through a process exactly like every other part of the robot, with 3D modeling, design reviews, and manufacturing.

Finance:

Just because we’re already in the season does not mean Finance has stopped raising money. This week we were awarded $3000 from the Gene Haas foundation to continue building our $10,000 robot! We also were able to find a new manufacturing business who is sponsoring our team by manufacturing our plates. Their name is Cutters Fabrication Solutions and they are a wonderful locally owned business that does manufacturing jobs for the community. We could not thrive as a team without our fabulous sponsors.

Media:

Media has been kept busy by quite a few different projects. Yard signs, Jerseys, and Bio Book are all items that are finishing up their design so our team can have some great swag! The impact video and robot reveal video are also in the works, with some great strides being made this last week.

Thanks for stopping by this week! We look forward to seeing you next week for our robot update! They have been building all week and it is some exciting stuff.
